Lindsey + Ben . A Short by Mary & The Joel from Blue Window Creative on Vimeo.
We’ve been posting something delightful these last few Mondays (to counter-act the shock back into the work week.) Among others, the new offbeat gathering of images found in galleries, “No Popping or Locking,” and now a video snippet.
In addition to images, we also recorded a bit of audio from their time practicing in the woods together, and a few video clips, as they were kind enough to let us experiment on them like scientists. The video wass actually a surprise for them, and we lured them to our apartment with promises of playing Mario Kart on the N64 to show it to them. (Mario Kart was had, afterward.) The original is by Quiet Company, but am kind of a fan of LiBe’s rendition. (Sometimes we refer to couples by initials, but we had so many KJ’s and LB’s this year, that we had to move to second letter in names. Makes it very periodic table chart sounding around here.)
To re-cap, we captured digital images, double exposure images on 35mm film from a 50 year old camera, recorded two audio clips with phones, and some video clips sweaty-palmed in-between camera clicks within 8 hours. These are a lot of factors that could’ve not worked out, and until recently, forgot that we even gathered any video that day. To be honest, we’re not entirely sure what we’re doing with video, but it sounded like fun and we had a sense of what felt right when editing it/asking google how to do what we wanted. It was really great to do something we didn’t know would work out, as this was our first edited short. Just thankful that these two said, “Has anyone ever trusted you entirely to just do your thing without any guidance? Because, that’s what we want you to do.” Even though it made our hearts beat fast in anxiety at the time.
If they hadn’t last-minute-practiced their song off in the woods for ten minutes, none of this would’ve been. Definitely grateful for the imperfection in it all, and their complete open-book attitude towards us. All thoughts/comments welcome, as this is probably a strange thing to see here, and you may be wondering what’s going on. We’re not quite sure, but we think the term documentary takes a lot of forms, and today it’s a flick.
Sincerely,
-MaJo
