The New Site, New Blog, and New Thoughts

Sometime we have to do a post on all of the different sites, logos, and business cards we’ve had over the years. It’s seriously, more embarrassing than a middle school yearbook. But it has been an incredible learning experience, and parts of our first logo are still present in our current. Here is yet another step towards Blue Window evolution.

So in this new e-world, we have decided to leave behind the texture, and even color, that our old site possessed. Our main hope is that it will be an intuitive walk through our realm, and that people will feel refreshed when leaving. We wanted the work to be the thing people look at and the site to just be a “platter” that it’s served on. We’re on SO many sites, all the time; it’s kind of disturbing the amount of time spent online. We’ve really just been visually exhausted by it all. Every site is a new navigation to pick up on, new hierarchy, different layout, images blinking at us, we really just got burnt out and wanted something informative, minimal, and all about the work. Maybe someday, we will reconsider this and mix it up, but here are some reasons behind this new found “wide open spaces” on the internet:

Mary realized she didn’t need to have a textured website, to show that she’s good at designing with texture. The designs will speak for themselves.
The work is strong and holds it’s own on the site. We stood back, and looked at our old site and realized the images weren’t the focus; figured that needed to change.
The small design details we include have more of an impact as it is so clean.
No flash, no music-when we go to other sites the first thing we look for is the pause button as we always have other music playing. We love music, but want every person to have their own experience with the images.
Simplicity. We want all the information to just be there. Easy to find. We have so many different things we do, we felt it was unclear when you first go to our site, what those things were.
Flexibility!! We will use the same design throughout each of our sub-sites. (design, lookbook, invitations, etc.) We will also be using it in fancy, special ways for our clients.
A Marketing Analysis. As “grown-up” and nerdy as that sounds, we’ve been working with KO-Consulting and it’s been such an incredible asset. We went from “Yay! I’m creative, let’s do stuff!” to actually having a detailed overview of our business, and how we can do what we do better. In short: we’re gettin’ legit!

We hope you enjoy and find it a good resource for the latest happenings, and cool people, places, and other sites we come across. Please leave a comment or shoot us an email as we’d love to hear your thoughts.
