Last Monday, around noon and still in our pj’s and unshowered, we signed up for a creative conference called “What If.” It was in Portland, and it was at 4:00 that day; sounded like a good idea as it was within biking distance. Most others had to think farther ahead in advance; hopping on planes and trains, coming from Australia, Mexico, Canada, and all over the US.
Tuesday night at 3 am we rashly decided to change our website. As in, if someone wanted to visit the home page, they would only see this:
This may have been a stupid move. We’re not sure, yet. But we knew we’d been putting off curating years of work and hundreds of images on portfolio to more clearly reflect the work we are doing, and wanted to do. That we’d rather potential clients landing here see nothing than a mixed message of what we were currently doing. *gulp*
We’re not squishy, poetic muses, but thought the unusually moody image from a recent wedding (baby tree on a window sill) was a good one to illustrate what’s in the works. Intentionally unintentional, imperfect, and incomplete.
This gathering of over 50 creatives last week, might sound like a cult-like kool-aid that’s causing us to derail our business. Maybe it is. But it’s given us clearer sense of what we’re doing right, what we’re doing wrong, and the things that are cluttering up both of those. It will be different for you, and without a date or location, we’ve already pre-registered for the next one in the beginning of 2013.
Big shift from deciding in our PJ’s that morning to fully committing without any other details other than it’s happening. Happy to share more details about this and our new friends if you’d like, sometime – just ask.
New galleries in progress as we type. New work to be shared. If your wedding is coming up, or we just documented it, you shouldn’t be scared that we’re doing all of this. We are doing this to make better for you, because we’re not satisfied with the way we “should” do things.
