We’ve been editing a lot, literally staring at other people for hours, even days, and thought we’d take a break and look at ourselves a bit. Honestly, not as vain as it sounds, as we always tend to shy away (even run) from being on the other side of the lens. However, we needed a fun break, it was just before my birthday, and Joel found a sweet “Speed of Light” suit at the thrift store-needed to show it off a bit. All of which called for a little self-documentation. (Joel is the best at the “stick your arm out” shots, by the way; he could totally do a workshop on it…it’d be a five minute one, though.) We also cleaned up on sand dollars, although it might’ve been illegal to find as many as we did…it was amazing! This was just a day trip over and up the coast a bit; weird that we live somewhere we can say that like it’s no big deal.
Hope you enjoy looking at us, running, jumping, flying, playing, and enjoying as finally going through this folder and putting these together made me smile a lot. This is not our everyday, for sure, but was a great one; I have the feeling I’ll be frequenting this post just to giggle. Maybe you’ll even bust out laughing, as Joel is just too good at sporting that $2 sheet like he’s invincible. lol! It’s great that I don’t have to imagine too hard what he was like when he was six; I think I fell in love with him more this day.
And feel free to step right up and leave some comments as we know you’ll want to. ![]()

i like the ones where it looks like he’s taking off to fly.
i’m going to go make a comic book about the super heroes that you two are. next issue: ninjas in the jungle.
I feel like I was there-how did you do the one where it looks like he is in mid-air? There is so much beauty here, so much about the two of you, about the ocean and nature, love, wind and water. breathtaking. Thanks for sharing!
you two!
i love your combined mojo.
Oh my gosh.
Why have we not hung out again yet?
Besides the fact that we’re both really busy?
So THIS is what photographers do in their time off – SO amazing! Love Joel’s olympic swimmer with a little cowboy bling outfit. What’s his superpower? My fav pic is probably the one of the sun behind your head or the one of Joel’s back with the cape flying out behind him as he runs – something about the framing of that one that is striking. Pure moments captured…
Beautiful as always. Each one of your photographs is a work of art. I love you guys!
You two are so awesome! I want to play photography with you guys.
LOL! : ) This was a triathlon suit we found at a thrift store and an ikea sheet for a “cape.” Photography play is always welcome in Mary & The Joel Dome. He also ran down the street in Portland in front of a few bars pretending like he was going to stop a crime. (All of these while 100% sober.)
